Charge at Home

Smart EV charging done properly

Knox Power & Data supply and install EV chargers for homeowners and businesses across Wakefield, Leeds and West Yorkshire. We fit leading brands including Andersen, Ohme, Zappi, Hypervolt, Easee, Sync EV and Wallbox — all smart, app-controlled and fully certified.

Every installation is carried out by our own NAPIT-registered, OZEV-approved electricians — no subcontracting and no compromise. We start with a free site survey, plan a tidy cable route, then complete the work to BS 7671 with full certification and building control notification.

End-to-End EV Charging

One installer for survey to certification

As OZEV-approved electricians, we handle the complete job in-house — survey, supply, installation, smart setup, certification and grant paperwork.

Home EV Chargers

Tethered and untethered smart chargers for homeowners with off-street parking — fast, app-controlled charging with neat, weatherproof cable routing.

Workplace & Commercial

Scalable charging for businesses, landlords and commercial premises, with Workplace Charging Scheme support and infrastructure built for fleets.

Smart Charging & Tariffs

Every charger connects to WiFi and an app, integrating with Octopus Intelligent Go and similar tariffs to charge automatically during the cheapest hours.

Consumer Unit Upgrades

If your board is full, outdated or lacks RCD protection, we upgrade it alongside the charger so everything is compliant and done in a single visit.

Multi-Car Load Management

Two electric vehicles or a busy site? We install multiple chargers with load management so they share the supply safely without overloading the property.

Certification & Grants

OZEV-approved, NAPIT-registered installs notified to building control, with full certification and government grant paperwork handled in-house.

Smart & Cheaper to Run

Cheaper charging with smart tariffs

Every charger we install connects to WiFi and an app, so you can schedule charging, set limits and monitor energy use from your phone. Paired with an EV tariff such as Octopus Intelligent Go, your car charges automatically during the cheapest overnight hours — often around 7p per kWh.

  • Home charging from ~5–8p per kWh vs 40–80p at public chargers
  • Automatic off-peak scheduling on smart EV tariffs
  • App control, charging limits and energy monitoring
  • Annual savings of around £500–£1,000 for typical mileage

Want a real example? Read our EV charger installation case study, where we installed a smart charger in a detached garage 40 metres from the property.

Getting the Detail Right

What we look at during the survey

No two homes are the same, so the free survey is where we get the detail right. We confirm your main fuse rating and incoming supply, inspect your consumer unit for spare capacity and RCD/RCBO protection, and measure the cable run from the board to your preferred charger position.

We then plan the neatest, most discreet route — surface conduit, internal routing or an underground run to a detached space — and check earthing arrangements, fitting open-PEN protection or an earth rod where needed so the install is fully compliant. We fit both tethered and untethered chargers; see our blog on tethered vs untethered EV chargers for the full comparison.

What We Solve

Common EV charging challenges

No tidy cable route to the parking space

Detached garage, awkward driveway or a long run from the board? We plan discreet surface, internal or underground routes so the finish stays neat.

Full or outdated consumer unit

Many older boards lack spare capacity or RCD protection. We assess yours at the survey and upgrade it in the same visit when needed.

High public charging costs

Public rapid chargers cost 40–80p per kWh. A home smart charger on the right tariff drops that to around 5–8p — saving £500–£1,000 a year.

Charging two cars on one supply

Households with two EVs need load management so both charge safely. We design the install around your supply, not against it.

Why It Matters

Built to save you money and last

Cost Savings

Home charging costs 5–8p per kWh vs 40–80p at public chargers — hundreds of pounds saved every year on your charging.

Convenience

Charge overnight and wake up to a full battery. No more trips to public charging stations or waiting around for a charge.

Certified Installation

NAPIT-registered installs with full certification — safe, compliant and professionally finished to BS 7671 standards.

Home EV Charging

Home EV charger installation in Wakefield

If you have off-street parking, a dedicated 7.4kW wall charger is the cheapest and safest way to run an electric car. It adds around 25–30 miles of range per hour, so a typical 60kWh battery charges fully in 8–10 hours overnight — compared with 24 hours or more from a 3-pin "granny" lead, which was never designed for sustained daily use.

Every home install runs on its own dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, with weatherproof terminations, discreet cable routing and full BS 7671 testing and certification on completion. Most jobs are finished in a single visit of 3–5 hours; only long underground runs or a consumer unit upgrade push it to a full day.

Andersen A2

Premium hardwood-fascia unit with hidden cable storage — the tidiest option for front-of-house installs.

Ohme Home Pro

Dynamic smart charging with automatic off-peak scheduling and deep Octopus Intelligent Go integration.

Zappi (myenergi)

Solar PV integration with eco and boost modes, so surplus generation goes into the car rather than the grid.

Hypervolt

Strong UK app support, tethered or untethered, with LED status lighting and energy monitoring.

Easee One

Compact, modular design with built-in load balancing — ideal where wall space is tight.

Wallbox Pulsar Plus

Ultra-compact unit with Bluetooth, WiFi and power sharing for two-car households.

Not sure which unit suits you? We'll recommend the right charger at your free survey based on your tariff, parking layout and whether you have solar PV. For a cost breakdown, read our guide to EV charger installation costs in Wakefield.

OZEV Grants

EV charger grants — who qualifies

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) funds part of the cost of installing chargepoints at homes and workplaces. Grants must be claimed through an OZEV-approved installer — we're approved, so we check your eligibility and handle the paperwork as part of the job.

Homeowners, tenants & landlords

  • Owner-occupiers living in flats or apartments
  • Tenants in rented accommodation, with landlord permission
  • Landlords installing chargepoints for tenants
  • Dedicated off-street parking is required
  • Worth up to £350 towards the installation

Owners of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses with a driveway are not eligible for the domestic grant. We'll confirm your position at the free survey rather than promising savings you can't claim.

Businesses & workplaces

  • Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) vouchers for businesses and charities
  • Up to £350 per socket towards purchase and installation
  • Claim for up to 40 sockets across multiple sites
  • Suited to offices, warehouses and commercial premises with off-street parking

The full WCS voucher process, fleet infrastructure and load management detail lives on our workplace EV charger installation page.
